Rudy Heuer - Director of Ministries

Rudy is a musician and a Marine by background and a pastor by calling. After majoring in music in college, he spent four years in the Marine Corps as a keyboard player. During his time as a Marine Rudy felt God's call into gospel ministry, and after his enlistment he attended Reformed Theological Seminary, Washington D.C. and completed his Master of Divinity through a hybrid program. Rudy served as an intern at Tenth Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia and as Children and Youth Director at All Saints Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minnesota before coming to New Hope. He enjoys all kinds of music, fitness, and travel, and he is an avid reader. Rudy is married to Emily and they have two young children, Peter and Lydia.

Luke Leavit - Elder, Worship Leader

Luke and his family have been at NHC for eight years, and he has served as an elder for the past five. Luke enjoys leading worship on guitar, teaching Sunday School, and greeting visitors.


When not serving as an elder at New Hope, Luke is a hospital administrator for a local health care organization. He enjoys playing basketball with his three sons and all season of outdoor recreation with his family. He and his wife Bess lead the worship team at NHC.

Bert Smith - Elder, Treasurer

Bert was born and raised in Hampden, Maine and attended college at the University of Maine in Orono, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and a Masters of Business Administration.  Amy, his wife, was born in Bangor and attended the University of Maine for much of the same time, but they wouldn't meet until the time was right, about 10 years later!  Both moved around Maine and New Hampshire before returning to the Bangor area.  Amy and Bert were married in 2010 and have been blessed with two children: Annabelle and Corbin.  


Bert operates a small company that performs air testing services, which involves a lot of travel around the Northeastern US.  The family currently resides in Brewer, and have been members of New Hope Church since 2018.

Sharon Bowman - Administrative Coordinator

Sharon works part-time for New Hope Church as the administrative coordinator. She juggles life as a wife to Eric and mom to four kids 8 and under.
