At New Hope, we hold fast to the historic Christian faith.
We believe in the one, true God, creator of heaven and earth, sovereign over all the universe, who alone is worthy of all glory, honor and worship. We believe that, because of our all-encompassing sin, we cannot live up to God’s standards of holiness and must remain estranged from Him forever, experiencing suffering and pain in this life, and finally death – but that, before the foundations of the world, God made a way to reconcile us to Himself. We believe that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ to die in our place, taking upon Himself our sins and crediting to us His righteousness, making us at peace with God, and that He rose again on the third day, conquering death for those whom God elected unto life before the foundations of the earth. We believe in the Holy Spirit, who lives within those who believe on Christ empowering them to walk day by day in closer step with God’s good
and holy commands. We believe the Bible is the very Word of God, infallible and
inerrant. We believe that the teaching of the Bible can be summarized in ancient creeds and confessions. For example, the Nicene Creed (AD 325) and the Westminster Standards (The Westminster Confession of Faith and Westminster Larger and Shorter Catechisms (1647)) describe well the faith and doctrine we profess.
The Nicene Creed:
We believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
begotten from the Father before all ages,
God from God,
Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made;
of the same essence as the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
he became incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary,
and was made human.
He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered and was buried.
The third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again with glory
to judge the living and the dead.
His kingdom will never end.
And we believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life.
He proceeds from the Father and the Son,
and with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified.
He spoke through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church.
We affirm one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look forward to the resurrection of the dead,
and to life in the world to come. Amen.
